Cylinders
Cylinders
2018

The first two weeks of every semester Introductory Ceramics students are introduced to the pottery wheel, and learn to center the clay and ‘pull’ cylinders. Any student who wishes to continue on the wheel may do so, provided they also complete their other assigned projects (I arrange additional throwing instruction outside of class, and often bring in potters from the community for demonstrations). At the end of the semester they may substitute a comprehensive body of thrown work for the final assignment.

The students are encouraged to experiment with these first cylinders -- manipulate the form, carve the surface, add attachments, etc. We also use these first cylinders as glaze test pieces.

These pieces were fired to cone 6 in oxidation (electric kiln).
