The project must have a secret compartment and/or consider the interior of the form as extensively as the exterior. Students are required to start with an initial design (which can change as their idea develops), and are also encouraged to work on a somewhat larger scale. This assignment is primarily a slab building assignment, but students can also utilize other building techniques. Students are also encouraged to design and utilize a pattern prior to construction.
This project was a very unique and creative response to the assignment. The student desired to create a form that would function as a vase, both when the piece was assembled, or when it was displayed as two forms. The vase is approx. 18" tall (assembled) and it was fired to cone 6 in a soda atmosphere (gas kiln).
