Assignment: Cups
Create at least 2 functional cups with at least one other complimentary form. These objects will comprise a thematic group.
Some students choose to interpret this assignment with very elaborate compositions; other students focus on more understated form and surface. Function and attention to detail (craftsmanship) are always the main goals. The variety of outcomes contribute to an interesting discussion on the concept and challenges of making (and using) utilitarian forms.

These cups were fired to cone 6 in a soda atmosphere (gas kiln); there was a bowl that completed the set but it was broken when students were unloading the kiln. This student's assignment was inspired by an advanced student who was utilizing Mishima techniques and also wedging two colors of clay together (if you look closely, you can see the clay is marbled). These cups are approx. 5" tall.
