Kristopher’s slip-cast pottery; his focus for the semester was learning how to make plaster molds and experiment with deflocculated clay bodies. The initial designs were carved from solid blocks of clay, and then plaster molds were created to cast hollow pottery forms. Kristopher used a cone 6 casting slip, which he often colored with mason stains. These cups were fired to cone 6 in oxidation, they are approx. 6-8” tall. Many of the surface effects and colors were created with a combination of techniques -- applying colored slip into the plaster mold, dipping the pieces into colored slip after they are removed from the mold, and glazed surfaces.
